Does it take a new post to make you answer our question? (see below) Do you want me to list everything that was wrong with it when we bought it, I thought the hole in the block was a big enough deal that you would answer but I guess not. You have no trouble telling what is good but not do not mention anything bad even when asked. We have bought about 25 tractors for our collection/farm work the past three years and you and somebody just South of your border are the only people we have had trouble with. I know of two other people that got a semi load from you and you hung up on them when they questioned you. Come on. By the way if you answer, do not say you did not see the hole as I will post a pic in stuck and trouble, and I dought a legally blind person could miss it as how much oil comes out of it.

Why oh Why is it that some people just keeps draging things throught the mud. You never mentioned what you paid for the tractor, your not telling the whole story if what Vern says happened three to four years ago. I take it you never had him send pictures of the tractor. I get the feeling that there is a lot more your not telling us. I myself would like to see the picture of the block, I'm sure you could post a picture with your reply.

I do want you to know I have never boughten or have done business with Vern. I have dealt buying and selling old tractors myself. Most times they are better than I figured they would be. Sometimes there worse .Most of these tractors are over 40 yrs old. Quit crying and get over it. All you are doing for me is throwing up a red light not to ever sell you anything or anyone that is supporting you.

It really surprises me how many cry babies are here on this board. I don't care who you are if your selling 40 + year old equipment you can't please everyone. Apparently you have nothing better to do than nurse a grudge. Sounds like Vern tried to settle this 3-4 years ago but you're still infected with hate. Dang get a life.

Seems as though all people do is bad mouth Vern. If you had a bad experience, I suppose you feel strongly he is a bad person. However, I bought a tractor from vern two years ago. Had never dealt with him before, or since. I do have to say though that the tractor was even better than I had hoped for, and got an excellent price on it as well. I have yet to see a tractor in this condition sell for even close to my purchase price. $1,000+ more is where they have all been.
Final comment: there are two sides to every story. My side, thanks Vern, for a nice clean straight tractor.

Yes, there are two sides to the story. Vern knows he sold us a 4010 with with a hole in the block and lots of other trouble for the price of a good running field ready tractor. Why does it take other people to defend him, he can not even answer a simple question and people that buy parts tractors from him are defending him. Go buy a good running tractor from him and end up with a hole in the block and then have him not answer why he did that, then YOU can post whatever you want including that he is a good person. Like Chuck430c said, a no answer tells a lot about a person. Or is Vern's computer down right now or is he out of town, or both? Who knows.

I'm sorry about your situation. I would be very angry as well if what your are describing had happened to me. However, I also feel the need to tell it from my perspective. I bought what was told to me was an excellent running, super straight, clean AR John Deere. That is what I got. Even nicer than I had hoped for. Maybe I got lucky. I don't know. What I do know is that in MY case everything was as described, or better. I feel for you. I HAVE been in your shoes from another seller. This one in Arkansas. I paid $1500 for a tractor that was pure junk when I recieved it. I now have over $4,000 into it, am not close to being done, and could have bought a restored one for $3,000. Was I angry? Yes. That's life though. I know I won't treat others as I was treated on this deal.

Let's look at this way, you lucked out, or this guy had a decent tractor to sell and told the truth. It is a no brainer to anyone that has sold as many as he has that a hole in the block would be about the first and last thing you tell a buyer.
How about if you got stopped for speeding, the cop had you on radar, and you had several friends call him and tell him how many times they had been with you and you did not speed? Does that make you a none speeder? Are you still guilty, partially guilty, almost gulity, etc.
A good reputation is something that takes a lifetime to develop and a second to destroy.

Does anybody including yourself really think there is an IF involved here. I am telling the truth and that is the reason Vern will not post. I will continue to post every time his name is brought up because it will and always will be current until he makes it right. I am to the point where pictures will clear the IF thing up.

This issue was discussed by way of phone some 3 or 4 years ago, its pointless discussing it again by way of this GOSSIP column. Have a nice day! Vern

That kind of "no answer" avoiding the truth reply tells a lot about a person. You never made it good, it appears you were just glad to "get rid" of the problem tractor to any sucker you could find. These deals are the ones that give our hobby and all of the other honest folks a bad name.
The profile here will never chnage, once a crook, always a crook. All we can do is sort them out and then post on here so as to try to keep others out of the "well".

From what I can read into Verns responses on this issue and the others on the site,it seems everyone else is wrong, and he is right. He has told you about the tractor. He seems to have to defends him self on these issues, with reading the respones they seem to be vague. If this page is Gossip why does he post here?Something is fishy.

You brought three years ago up on Patrick so why can't I bring this to your attention and this is facts, do you want me to post the ad then the pictures. I don't see anything wrong with this unless you dont want me to.

If it is not digging too deeply in to the personal side of this issue, tell which one you did? Give him his money back and pay to have the tractor hauled back to your place OR did you send him a new block and parts to fix it gratis?
I am certain with the way you have denighed any wrong doing, one of the listed senarios is close to what you offered to make everything right. Just let us know which one, no harm in that is it?

I will tell you what Vern did and then see if he denies it. The 4010 also came with a flat back tire so he paid to have it fixed (new tube). On the block, "well I guess I should have told you" was his answer.

A friend of mine bought a tractor from a jocky in Maysville Ky that had a hole in the block you could stick your hand through. It was filled with body putty and would vibrate around when the tractor was running. He asked the seller why he didn't tell him about the hole in the block,he said "you didn't ask",so when you buy a tractor be sure to ask if there are any holes with body putty in them.

We will never catch nor identify all of the crooks and liers but if you do this enough, you learn to listen for a few coin phases that usually mean trouble.
I will only list a few, as I do not want the couple on here that are in hot water to get edumacated on what not to say to lie about a tractor.
If they claim low hours, quite tranny, little wear, typically they are selling instead of telling the truth. If they are honest, they will always allow a visit to see and drive the tractor. If they offer any excuses, no matter how real they seem, you might have trouble on your hands. If it is too far to visit and they know it, they always seem to not be able to get many pictures of what you really need to see. Again, they have done this so much, they know when they have a "fish" on the line. They are good at setting the hook by saying whatever it takes to make you want that tractor. Another ploy is, "there is man here locally that wants it but has not put the money on it". What better way to push you over the edge to commit to it.?
One of these guys that is claiming to be innocent used the phase, "right off the farm, everything works, just needs paint". I did not buy that 830 but know the poor guy that did. Last count, he was over $8,000 in repairs and was not finished. This answer comes from a guy that has been around tractors all of his life, it is a blantant and obvious out and out lie that he told this guy because he knew this guy did not know much.
Just take your time, go see it up close if at all possible. Or, buy from someone that does not have to lie and be a crook to be in this.
