I have talk with a couple of Ferguson owners who use their tractors on small hobby farms that swear with adding a lead complement to their gasoline. Are they adding longevity to their engine or just wasting their money. Their reason is that this engine was designed to run on leaded gasoline. Thanks Bill H.

Good luck

Hi Bill

I put 4 ounces of 2 stroke engine oil in
5 gallons of gas and use it in all my engines
TEA-20,lawn tractor, ac generator and.....

It avoid varnish formation, prolongs gas life
give a light prelube on start when engine is rarely used, help to reduce carbon and combustion
by products in engine.

So... each tractor nut has his own tractor gas
magic potion ah ah !!

Have good times !!

I own a machine shop here in Dayton,Oh I have rebuilt quite a few Cont. gas engines over the years, (I am a TO-35 gas owner also) The valve seats (ex) in these engines (Z-120-z129-z134-z145)all have hardened seats from the factory, due to the severe service these engines might experice, in the field. I have seen burnt valves , but it was not due to the running of todays fuel. These great little engines were way ahead of their time.

The 6/1 compression ratio used by TO model tractors is quite low compared to the high compression engines that leaded gasoline was designed to protect. I asked a old retired H. Ferguson dealer/mechanic about this subject and his answer is: " the lead additive was to protect the valve seats and valves from burning due to the high heat generated in high compression engines. Carburator adjustment should be set to run rich as stated in the owners manual to protect the valves. It is very unlikely you'll damage the valves in your TO30 tractor; in the event that eventually happens just replace the valves and seats with available new parts made to use unleaded gasoline." So- I've run unleaded gas in my TO30 for 14 years now and there is no evidence of valve leakage. The engine has never been apart other than to replace a defective head gasket. It may burn a valve tomorrow, and if it does I'll replace the parts like my friend said and keep on farming until either the tractor goes to the graveyard or I do.

For about $5.00 a year why not pour some in. You will get 20 different answers, all of them probably correct for certain aplications.

How about oil additives such as Duralube, Prolong, Motorup, STP. I've use Duralube in my truck and also in my tractor. No Difference in running in my truck, but in my tractor it seems to start better and run cooler. Nothing scientific, maybe just mental knowing that I added it. Bill H.
