Thanks to forum readers who have helped me figure out that I have a TO-30 oil pan on my TO-20 engine. I bought the tractor last spring and had no problems with it. Now, this spring, I discovered this setup when I went to change the oil. Do I leave it as such, with no oil filter? Do I look for a TO-20 oil pan and replace the present oil pan to bring things back to a filtered situation? Do I just change the oil more frequently and leave well enough alone? Also any special type of oil if I do nothing? Detergent or non-detergent? Manual calls for 30 weight. Thanks in advance.

It is more than just a oilpan. You will have to have a oil pick/up tube, steel encloser for the screen and oil filter, rod coming off of the center bearing cap to hold the lid that holds the filter in the pan and the oil pick up tube. The cover for the oil pan and a TO-20 Oilpan too. Lot of parts to make it correct. You might as well drop the pan and see what you have in there. I am sorry I do not have a Oil pan it got trashed when I set the engine down to hard and it now has a dent in it. But I do have the rest of the engines long block with no cracks and head for sale. They are listed it the YT Mags classified section. Mark H.

You could replace the pan with the correct one if you wanted but if it were me I'd just leave it as it is and change the oil more frequently. This supposes you're only using the tractor occasionally. If it's going to get really used, you should definitely change the pan. BTW even if you choose to keep the pan, you should check and see if there is a filter in there that is all crapped up and in danger of blocking the oil flow. Also if you kept the pan you'd need to pull the pan every couple of years to change the filter anyhow. Sooo, after all this thinking out loud I guess I'd eventually change the pan. Sounds like a lot of work every couple of years and I ain't getting any younger.
