I bought a 13-4011-sw 12 volt alternator from NAPA to do a conversion on my TO 20. I think I have a problem with the rotation. If I'm facing the alternator front the cooling fins are slanted toward the left - what I would think would be a counter clock wise rotation. If I look at the generator from the front as it rotates on the tractor it is rotating clockwise. My question is this if both rotations are opposite can I use this alternator or should I try to return it and get one where the rotation is the same as the engine rotation. Bill H

Thanks everyone. I guess this was a dumb question but I just wanted to be cautious.

Reverse rotation marine engines as well as Corvairs run so called backwards. Some industrial applications used in dusty conditions may have a fan that moves air opposite from normal. Alt. does not care which way it runs as far as charging is concerned.

yes,an alternator will charge in either direction, however all automotive engines turn clock wise and so do the alternators.

Marlowe, are you saying that this alternator will charge in either rotation direction. Bill H
