My oil pressure and ammeter guages are not connected on my TO-20 I bought recently. The Oil pressure guage tube is not connected to the engine block. The fitting has a small cone like thing inside but I cannot figure out how the tube connects to it. Is is fixable or do I need a new guage tube?
Also, my ammeter is not connected. Is there a reason someone would disconnect? It looks like the wire was just cut at the bolt where the generator connects located just under the fuel sediment bowl. Can I just replace this wire?

Why not just replace the gauges? There are pretty good replacements available. I think a new ammeter is about $7, and a replacement oil pressure gauge is $13 or so. New ones look better, too!

Thanks Larry. I had no idea they were that cheap. Now the question is where can I get them? DO they have to be special ordered or are they available from any farm equipmentsupply or auto parts store?

I would say that is something wrong with the gauges. A short in the ammeter, leak in the oil gauge or line. Why on earth would someone unhook them unless something wrong. Well the person that had my TO20 before me told me he had changed it over to 12 volts. Wrong, the only thing he did was change the battery and sol.

Thanks John, just wondered if there was a way to test a guage that was not working, looks like the oil pressure guage just broke where it connected to engine block fitting, and was unsure if you could test the ammeter before buying a new one. Would it hurt anything to use a jumper wire from terninal to meter to test? I don't want to risk shorting out something..

You could hook them up and test them if you wanted to. Be sure to put a fuse in line with the amp gauge. About a 15 to 20 amp fuse should stop you from frying things. And it's like Larry said gauges are cheep to the cost of a new motor or battery.

Someone on this board answered the same question for me. They suggested JC Whitney. I got ammeter, oil pressure and a temp gauge for about $25. dw
