This promblem has been driving me crazy. Had been getting air into the system, but think I got that fixed. Know she will run great all day but shut her off the next day she won't fire off. Seems like a vacum is being made in the fuel system. Been trouble shooting for weeks. She will run great until it sits for awhile. Also need to know where is a good place to find bango bolts for the fuel lines, and the connectors the bolts go thru. Also need a new intake heater (preheater). Any thoughs would be appriacated.

Matt, The Standard made 23c diesel has always had the reputation of being a very poor starting engine indeed. I am currently restoring a 1957 FE35 which led a very easy working life until last year. Even though it was very well looked after, it still was reluctant to start. Firstly, make sure that the heater plug in the manifold is working. When you turn the ignition key to "heat", you should feel the heater plug is warm. This is possible when the heater plug is still in situ. The pipe from the end of the diesel tank to the heater plug should allow a small amount of diesel to flow while the ignition key is in "heat" position. Try spraying some "Easy-Start" into the air-intake rubber (behind the dash, to the air cleaner" before attenmpting to start the tractor. This is atomised fuel which will travel into the manifold and help starting. If the fuel lines are clear, and the fuel lines have been bled to clear them of air, then starting shouldn't be a problem. I have found it always takes two attempts at starting, even though I have checked the system right over!. However, they are great tractors and it is well worth the effort. Good Luck.

unless your using it as a show piece,i would put an electric fuel pump ahead of the injection pump.i have worked on two of these where the vane pump in the head of the injection pump did not pump enough fuel at cranking speed and the owners couldnt spend the money to have the pump repaired.
