Gear Alignment Dilemma

I am reworking two distributors (Delco Remy #1111722) to make on good one for my TO20. I now have the drive pinion (gear) off of both of them so I can share the shims, to minimize end play. Here's my DILEMMA - I didn't use any match marks when taking the gears off. At first glance the gear looks symmetrical, but upon closer inspection I realized thats not so... HELP!!
Now I need a way to determine which way the gear goes back on. If someone has a diagram showing the alignment relating the pin (on the rotor side of the shaft) with the gear teeth, it would be a blessing. I have a FAX if someone has info to send. Thanx.

What I'm saying is, that if you look at the hole in the gear (for the pin/rivet) in relation to the gear teeth, it is different from one side of the gear to the other. Looking at one side of the gear, the center of the hole/pin is inline with the left face of the closest gear tooth. And looking at the other side, the center of the hole/pin is inline with the right face of the closest tooth. So if we are looking at the face of the shaft that the rotor points towards, what should the gear/pin relation be???
