TE20. The back hydraulics work perfectly except for one small thing. Everytime that I depress the clutch pedal, my gannon or whatever I have on the backdrops. It works in all gears at all times except when the clutch is depressed. Is there a check valve or something. I can’t believe my Hydraulics are bad, if it only happens when the clutch is depressed. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It should not drop like a stone when you depress the clutch. It should stay up reasonable. I just had this same problem on a TO30 Fergie and it was the check valve, which looks kinda like a spark plug and is down at the rear of the pump. Now, this was on a TO30, and I don't know about the TE tractors, but if it is the same, you can reach it thru the side plate openings, but I found I could not get mine out without using a wrench thru the drain hole in the bottom, so I drained everything to replace it. I believe it was an 11/16 wrench size. This valve is the same as on a 9N Ford and the New Holland dealer version was cheaper than the MF price, about $23.95 if memory serves. When I got my old valve out I could see nothing wrong. But the new one definitely eliminated this problem. My 2 cents.

The Ford version is set lighter than the Ferguson valve, and will "pop off" under less weight. I believe the Ford valve is set to 1,900# and the Ferguson valve is set to 2,200#. That is the only difference I know of. This valve is located under the PTO shaft on the rear of the pump. I replaced mine without draining the oil by just working under the oil by feel. It's messy but saved lots of time.

Bob, search back about 6-12 mos.and find discussions on this problem. I explained a diagnostic proceedure to locate the source of leakdowns as explained to me by a former H. Ferguson dealer/mechanic.

That is normal operation for the old Fergusons now their could be a leak from around the lift cylinder below the seat usually the hydraulics drop more slowly unless it is worn and has a few leaks but it is not a live system you only have pressure when the PTO shaft is turning as soon as the clutch is depressed no hyd pumping.
