I had my TO 20 worked on and by a mechanic and now the oil leaks out of the opening at the bottom of the pan where you go in to change filter. The mechanic said the bottom of the pan was bent and the plug was bent also, he tried to seal with a tube of gasket forming seal. It still leaks, about a half quart per day...drip,, drip,,,drip...What should i do? Should the entire pan be taken off and some way bent back in a flat shape and the same done to the plug, should I use more sealant and try to stop it that way? It appears the space around the plug is as wide as 1/2 inch in places. The sealant doesn't stick with the oil leaking out, so putting more sealant around what was there didn't work. All help is appreciated

P.J., Mark is correct with his advice and it is the best way to fix it. However, I have the same thing and it has been this way for several years. I don't use my TO 20 very much and here is what I have had success with. I get a new gasket each time I change the oil. Drain the oil and let it stand until there is no residual oil draining out of the pan opening. I clean the plate and the oil pan opening with a good grease cleaner. I use high temp gasket sealent 97B thin coat on the gasket and reassemble. Let it dry until the sealant has set before you refill the oil pan. This may not be the recommended solution but it has work for me. P.S. the next time you change oil you will need a new gasket and the sealant is a real dog to get off the plate and oil pan opening. P. J., The sealant is by Permatex and is SUPER HIGH TACK GASKET SEALANT Part #97B. I bought it at Autozone and it should be available at any parts store. Remember the key to the seal is to make sure that the pan and cover must be completely clean and free from any oil, dirt, and old sealants for the new sealant to ahere to the rubber gasket and oil pan and cover plate metals. The rubber gasket must be centered on the cover plate cause it is sealing against the uneven surface of the oil pan. If there is any oil drainage from around the pan opening, let it stand longer and clean it again before you start. It may take a couple days drain time to get it there. Make sure the sealant has time to cure after you install the filter before you pour in the oil. I get the rubber gaskets for about $5 each from a tractor repair shop that specializes in old tractor overhaul and repairs near my home. This is a cumbersome process and again the best fix is to go Mark's route with a new oil pan. Hope this works for you. Bill H.

I will get the new gasket and try again myself. Is there a particular brand of gasket/sealant that works better? I am not sure what 97b thin is.I appreciate the response and help. If that doesn't work I may try the new cover form Mark. Thanks guys.

Do you think he tried to lift the tractor with the oil pan? The cover is thick steel and the pan is thin. The bolt goes right up to the bearing on the crank shaft and it might be bent. I would pull the cover and see what is bent on the pan and try to straiten the pan out, if the bolt is bent you might break it by tring to straiten it out. Good luck, Mark H.

My mechanic did not bend it, I think it was bent before, The mechanic just did not get a good seal so I was trying to figure out the best route to use to get it to seal properly.
