after rewiring my to-20, i tried to start it and it would not start. my carb seems to be backfiring into the oil bath air cleaner. i don't
think it is a stuck valve as it ran fine until last march when i last used it.

We all done that, those of us that ever worked on them much. Just reverse wires no2 and no3 on the distributor and see how she runs. I think if memory serves me correctly they are horizontally across from each other. Be careful on that hot exhaust though, I burnt the back of my hand on it and a friend came along and did the same thing while doing one. L8R....Fred OH

You said you rewired so double check your firing order and make sure your timing isn't way off either. Spark plug wires in the wrong order could certainly cause your problem.

Good luck! Dan

Analyizing your work, your tractor ran fine until you rewired it. This means the timing is not the problem, your wiring is. Recheck your work for proper sequence and direction of rotation. You probably have only two wires crossed, it's easy to do, for all of us.(Been there-done that!)
