I've been trying to get my grandfather's ferguson to run. I knew it ran years ago but hasn't been ran lately. I'd like to fire it up just to see how it does. Are there any tricks or tips to help make it run? I haven't had any luck so far, I don't believe I'm getting spark either. Some of the numbers off the tractor are as follows, if they would help..
Transmission TO-7006
ID Plate TO-70563
Motor Plate z129-366431
Any information or help on this tractor would be greaty appreciated. Thanks, Josh

Norm and others,
Work has slowed down on the ferguson, I haven't been up since my last post. Farming and a little bit of framing work has come up so I'll have to wait for another break. I'm more than happy to keep you updated on my progress. Hopefully I'll get somewhere. Thank you everyone for your reply, advice, and help. I appreciate it.

Josh, Sorry to intrude but keep us posted if you may, how is it going? As Herb mentionned could be condenser in distributor. Anyone here know how to test these? Coil and condenser?

Josh,

I know a Josh Keller from the Baltimore Ohio area, whose grandfather had some old tractors. Where are you from???

Todd,
I live about 20 minutes outside of Harrisburg, Pa. Therefore I don't think I'm the guy you know. Thanks for replying and everyone else for that matter. Josh

Once you get spark, you will need to clean the carburetor as for sure it will be gummed up with the "varnish" of old gas. This is a relatively easy job and usually only requires new gaskets. Most of the time you can clean the jets and reuse them. A basic kit is less than $20 and the full kits are less than $35.

Had same trouble with my 30. Turned out to be the condenser inside the distributor.

Hi Josh, Still no spark? It could definitely be the coil however first you should check your switch. Are you trying to start it by crank or starter? If by starter remove all plugs and while still connected to wires and distributor, ground them. It will help a lot the starter without running against compression. Also drop a squirt of oil in each plug holes as being stopped for long you will help lubricate the rings. When cranking check for sparks. Do you have a elect DC meter to check your switch and wiring to coil and regulator? Perhaps someone on this forum could suggest how to test the coil also.
Do these first though and by all means come back with results.

Good Luck

Thanks for all of your replies. I was up working on the tractor today and still no luck. I cleaned up the inside of the distributor cap and also the rotor with a little wire brush on the end of my dremel. I checked the points and they appear to be in good shape to me. Some connections seem rusty, especially on the coil. I still have no spark, could the coil be bad? How about the voltage regulator? Could that affect the spark? I'm kind of at a loss at the moment. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Josh

Hi Josh, If there is no spark I assume you've checked all plugs if they're all foul free. Next I guess you should pop open distributor cap and check points to see if they're not hollowed out. You could use a small file (steel not sand) to expose the ends fresh. Check wires between coil and distributor and to switch. Rodents could have had fun with them. Try these first and report back here a lot of people here have lots of experience to get you going.

Good luck
