TO-20 gas problem?

My to-20 has been completely overhauled and was running pretty good. However, it now is very poorly preforming at startup. It will not run properly unless you hold open the choke. Saturday I had to choke it for five minutes or more to keep it running as I bush hogged. Finally it started to run good enough I didn't have to have the choke pulled for it to run. Sunday, it took ten to fifteen minutes with the choke pulled to get it to run, even then it never ran full out as I had to really keep the throttle pulled to keep RPM's up. I emptied the sediment bowl and it seemed to have fuel going into the bowl fast enough, so I don't think the bowl assembley was plugged. Where else should I look and what else should I do to correct?

Update..
I ran the tractor again this week after adding the heet. I notice some gas was leaking from the part of the carb where the choke shaft enters. I pulled the air hose off and it had gasolene in it. I would appear my float valve is stuck open in my untrained opinion. When I started it, it had the same problems as before. I ran it a while and ran over a big bump, and the engine started to run properly for a good while. Later it started acting up again, but barely running unless the throttle was wide open or the choke pulled. LAter agin, another bump got it running again properly. Any ideas on what the problem is and what I should do?

I think based on what you said in your last post that your problem is either trash in the gas tank or an electrical problem such as a bad connection somewhere.

That little brass elbow going into the carburator has a screen in it and occasionally it'll get clogged up. Seems like every time I clean mine...it wants to leak when I put it back together...even if I put some dope around it. They are available at the Ford dealer...last one I purchased was around two or three dollars.

My TE20 did the same thing until I added some Heat additive to the gas. It seemed as though there was some moisture in the tank. After adding one container full I found the world of difference in it's performance. Good luck

Have you been running all of the gas out of the bowl whenever you park it? The guy I bought my TO20 from told me to do that, but I didn't always remember. I started having the same problem and it didn't run right until I rebuilt the carb. Since then, I always turn off the gas flow and let it run all of the gas out of the lines before I park it. I haven't had a problem since.

Thanks guys I don't have the strainer in the brass elbow at the carburator, someone must have removed it years ago. I don't drain the line eact time out, but maybe I need to start. I'll add some Heat to teh gas and see if it helps.
