I had been looking for a plough to use with my TEA 2080, with little success, when as they say it never rains but it pours. I had just purchased and dragged home a two furrow trail plough when I got a phone call from a coworker tellng me he had found me a plough and it had to be picked up quick because the owner had sold the farm and wanted it gone. In as much as this second plough was a three point hitch type and the price was right (free) I went to get it. I was pleasantly supprised to find it was a Ferguson 10 AO 40 two bottom plough. YEE HAW!

Now for the questions:

What colour are these things supposed to be? Mine is rust and bird doo coloured.

There are two clamps (one infront of each share, on the top rail) that look like they are supposed to hold a pole or rod maybe an inch and a quarter in diameter, in a vertical position. Whats supposed to go here?

There are a couple of bolts on the back side near the end of the moldboards(? the curved steel plate that rolls the turf over) one of the bolts has a steel bar (1" wide, 1/8" thick, and 8" or so long) with a few holes in it and the other bolt has a little bit of wood held in it (the rest has rotted away). What belongs here? I can make a new one if I know what it is supposed to look like.

There are a couple of chains, with a ring on the bottom, hanging above the plough shares, from the top rails. What are these for?

Is there such a thing as a manual for this plough? and if so where can I get a copy?

And last but not least, where can I find information on how to use one of these things?

Thanks for your patience in reading this far.

Al, I'll answer as many of your questions as I can.

1. Your plough should be Ferguson grey, same as your tractor. 2.Your two clamps should hold the coulter stems to the plough beam. These are vertical stems with a fork at the bottom pointing rearwards. In the fork should be the hub of the disc coulter, which is a circular piece of metal, about 16 inches diameter which cuts the soil just ahead of the plough share. The skimmer arms and skimmers are attached to the left side of the fork. The chains you refer to are check chains used to prevent the whole coulter assembly from swinging out of the straight ahead position. Sounds like the coulters are missing from your plough 3. The metal bars are mouldboard braces. 4. You can obtain a reprint of the original mouldboard plough manual, (which will explain things a lot better than I can) from Friends of Ferguson Heritage at www.fofh.u-net.com.
Hope this has helped,
Peter.
