Good Afternoon Everyone
Another question from a Fergy Rookie, Last week I managed to get the use of a Bush Hog for a few days. When I tried to connect the PTO to the back of the tractor( male end). I was surprised to fine that it was a different size than the Bush Hog, I called my Ferguson Dealer and he told me I needed an adaptor, I drove back and bought one for $12. This was a very skimpy peice of metal that fit over the PTO on my Ferguson, once this was on the Bush Hog slipped right on. Is there a more permanent way I can convert this PTO on my TEA-20 to the right size? Any advise would be great. By the way, she handled the Bush Hog like she had been doing it for years

Had a similar problem and with the advice of many in this forum, bought an overrunning clutch that bolts (set screw) over the PTO spindle and provides both the ORC safety and proper size to attach the brush cutter. Mine was purchased at a JD dealership for $75. Does the trick just fine.

the only thing that i know of you could do is replace the pto shaft with a new one that is 1 3/8" and replace the old shaft which is 1 1/8" hope this helps

Replace the shaft as the other commentor suggested or I would also suggest you get a stronger adapter that will last a long, long time and costs about $30US whereby the one you have is pretty thin and won't last the season.

Hi Guys
Well I think I fixed my PTO problem. I stopped at my local TSC Store here and they had just what I needed. Its a separate PTO the bolts right over the one thats on my Ferguson. It extends the shaft to a much easier length for attaching implements. I havent tried it yet, but the only thing that could go wrong would be to replace the shear bolts it they wear out. Thanks for all the great advise. I paid $19 canadian

Hi Barry
CAUTION! CAUTION! CAUTION! You have NOT really fixed your problem you have just created a different problem.

I am running a bush hog on a 1951 Ferguson 2085 and would not consider doing it without an ORC (Over Running Coupler) - I paid about $80 Cdn at Princess Auto. Without the ORC, the momentum from the PTO can continue to push your tractor ahead after you disengage the clutch. While I thankfully have not had that experience, I have neighbours who have run into fences, ponds, creek bottoms and the family car because the tractor brakes were not strong enough to overcome the momentum of the bush hog.

I spoke with a tractor fellow last week who said he just won't sell a tractor like mine without an ORC - purely a safety issue. It is one of the reasons I have started looking for a Ferguson TO 35 Deluxe or a MF 35 (live hydraulics and live PTO) to replace my 2085.

Happy (and safe) hoggin'

Bob (Just north West of you near Douro)

Hope this is helpful.

Bob from Douro is right on. I also got an ORC from Princess Auto for use with my snowblower, and wouldn't be without it. You will notice the difference right away.
They have them with 1 1/8" on the "input" side and 1 3/8" on the "output" side, so they are also the adapter you need.
