Hello all,

TEA-2085 running great! Parked on a down slope facing my house while I attached a huge bolder to my front loader. OOOOPS!

Starter won't engage. Chocked the wheels. Pulled the starter. Here's the part I don't understand.

The starter gear is loose on the shaft. It seems to me that this wasn't just a free-wheelin' gear last time I had that thing out. It spins around and moves up and down the shaft.

That's not the way it works right?

Any of you fine folks have a starter for a '49 TEA-2085? Please? Cheap?????

Thanks Much!!!

Yes, it should move on the shaft some. If you are pretty sure the problem is the starter, take it to an automotive electrical shop and have them check it out. If it needs to be repaired that will be a lot cheaper than buying another starter.

I would say it would have to be welded back to the bendex somehow, as the gear spins in either direction and slides up and down the shaft freely. It's not connected to anything, therefore it can't apply power to the flywheel, it just engages and then the starter spins.

Do you think an electrical shop could weld this for me?

It has to be able to move some. Yes, take it to a reliable electrical shop. Whether welding is needed or not, I bet they can fix it.
