I use a brush mower ( Bush Hog ) with my TO 30 and that makes the front end dangerously light so I need advice in weighting down the front end.I know there were weights made to attatch to the front wheels.Does anyone know where I might buy a set of wheel weights, or have another suggestion for solving my problem?

If you have a regular Ferguson bumper on the tractor, you may be able to find some suitcase weights that will fit over the bumper.

I had that problem with a Fork Lift on the back so I made this set up. I welded two recever box type steel mounts to a section of 6 inch channel steel and bolted it to the support housing. The I took a peice of 4 inch round stock and welded a mathing set of box steel to it. Now I could slip it in when I needed it! It weights 200 lbs and the hood still opens up with it on. It was enought to allow me to lift full capasity with the lift on the rear. Mark H.

This is a picture of the mount under the front end. It looks long but it is the angle of the camera taking the picture. It is bolted to original 3/4 inch holes that might have been used for a front end loader support. Mark H.

Thanks for the follow up. That looks like a low cost solution to my problem.

Extra weight on the front end makes it harder to steer when you do not have the extra weight on the rear to offset it. With this set up I use a floor jack to lift it up and slip it in when needed. When I don't need the weight I slip in a light weight bummper instead that works better then haveing a bumper that takes shock to your axle support housing pivot pin for the axle. I would not want to bump into something that slamed my axle pin or jamed my steering linkage or radias arms. Most bumpers are mounted to the frame on other things. After market add ons are easy to just bolt to the axle for selling reasons due to more cost to mount it right. Just my ideas on the subject. No mater where you mount the bumper it still uses the support housing for the shock, so I just bypassed all the moving weaker parts. Mark H.

Try this list to locate front wheel weights; they are "unsprung" weight. Other methods place the additional weight on the spindles, axle pivot pin, and wheel bearings; this may cause damage if you hit a sharp ledge, hole, etc. with a front wheel.

Ray; I had given that idea some thought when I made this set up. Don't you think 100 lbs of extra weight on each wheel would do more damage to the wheel bearings and steering linkage, steering box ect jerking around on the spindles on bumpy ground over the weight being added to the support housing that bolts to the engine with lots of large bolts? That sorta would be like having a real heavy person in the seat as far as weight goes. Am I wrong in this thinking? This weight is added to the tractor instead of the moving part of the axle assembley. Mark H.
