Found out the block is cracked between the cam and crank. What are the possible repairs, if any at all? Also, is there any other engine that can be used in this tractor as a replacement? I have not been able to find a good Z120 block.

Thanks,
Chris

Z129 should fit. But often these blocks can be pinned, and if done correctly will be very satisfactory. One I had done was about $200 a couple of years ago, still no leaks or problems.

Can you explain how to pin the block? I am new to tractor engines, and haven't heard of this procedure. Also, are the Z129 engines as hard to find as the Z120?

It's a machine shop job. Best to ask for someone local who has done it. Chances are your local tractor rebuild experts, or MF dealer, will know someone. The rods in mine are stainless steel and are between the cylinders in the coolant. I don't know if the Z129 engines are any harder to find or not, but if you have a choice you would want the Z129 as it has more HP and has an external oil filter. Have you called around to the salvage yards? Try Mac Tractor Salvage in Colcord, OK, phone (918) 422-5514.

Thanks for the number to Mac's. They have Z120 blocks, that have been placed in a furnace and welded. Then allowed to cool and remachined. They are going for $550 exchange. Do you think this is a better fix then the block being pinned?

I don't know. See if they can tell you some customers and then call them. I have ordered parts from Mac and always have been satisfied. This is more expensive than pinning yours, but you probably don't know how bad yours is yet, right? So pinning yours is kinda a pig in a poke and this sounds like a done deal, and I guess that's worth something. If Mac will give you a customer name I'd call them.

I found out my block has alot of cracks in it, so I don't know if pinning it is even an option. It looks as though the previous owner got it very hot. So right now Mac looks like my best option to get this thing running. I really appreciate all the help.
