Hello,

I was wondering if anyone knows of an egine that will swap with a '49 TEA-2085 Standard engine. I'd like a bolt on conversion. Does the Continental engine bolt to the bellhousing in the same pattern?

Mine is shot, and cracked, and generally not worth rebuilding. I'd like an engine I can get parts for here in the USA. Every rebuild kit I find is in England or Sweden. Then I still have to weld the block.

Thanks.

You can get all the rebuilding parts you want in the US - at Bareco in CA. subsidiary of a company from Australia. Check out their address:
www.bareco.com.au
Contact their office for a retailer nearby.
Or get a whole engine shipped over from Europe - not a big problem these days.
A totally rebuilt Standard 2085 can be obtained for the neat sum of just under $1k.

I've got one with that conversion, and I've seen at least one other. The Continental engine is between 1 and 1.5 inches shorter. So the front axle mount has to be doctored. (Maybe one from an 30 will work) Mine has the engine shimmed out from the bellhousing about 1/8 inch. Don't know why yet. It seems to work okay, but the Continental is pretty far gone, too. I'm doing research on a possible swap. Ford, Case, Allis, Massey, etc. Even some car engines, such as Jeep. Usually a problem with front mount, starter position, governor, etc. Some might not be structurally strong enough. Also flywheel face position relative to bellhousing flange after an adaptor is used.

You could try us up here in the Great White North Lots of these tractors, engines and parts are available here and with the value of your US $ you should do quite well.
