Control Fork Retracting Spring

While inside the back end of my TE this last weekend I looked for the control fork retracting spring which is supposed to help the hydraulics behave by pulling the control forks back against the control valve on the pump - guess what, it isn't there (or at the bottom of the trans case)

This could explain why the hydraulics are behaving badly - but can anyone offer any advice on type, size and strength of spring to use to replace the missing one? Is there a current MF part that will replace it?

All help gratefully received.

You definately need this spring to be in place. I am amazed that the lift will work at all without it. Hope somebody hasn't done something to stiffen the control rods. This spring it designed to prevent damage to the linkage from violent actions of the draft mechanism caused by the top link being jammed in too quickly or violently. Without the spring the linkage is just sort of wobbling around in there.

This spring should have enough tension to have a pull of around five pounds. A big screen door spring that is suffectiently tensioned might work.

Email me and I'll send you a picture of it installed.
