Was finish mowing 4 acres the other day when i was shifting from 1st- to 2nd the transmission stuck. Think it's stuck in 1st but might be 2nd. Is there any easy way to correct this and keep it from happening again. Thank You .

I find that I can do as the other posters said only I unscrew the transmission filler cap and go in from there....might be a little quicker. But if you do pull the shifter....look at the ball on the end of it....sometimes it gets worn and needs to be welded up and ground off a little to make it fit better in the slots of the gear sliding mechanisms. I'll bet this problem happens more with the fellows using the new thinner (too thin) oil in their transmission/differential/hydraulic system. You have found one of the very few flaws in these tractors. I think that by welding up the end as described and using GL-1 oil (90 wt.)in the system....you will be as good as it gets. The reason this happens in the first place is....coming out of one gear too fast and going into another....the sliding gear that you just went out of keeps on moving and goes in to another gear....years of wear on the sliding gear assys. and the sliding rods and the spring loaded detent pins....and....not enough sticky gear lubricant on it to hold it from doing so. My proof of this (in my mind) is....it never does it when it is cold....just when the oil gets hot and thins out. So, you be the judge on what oil to use in your system along with welding up the ball. L8R....Fred OH

Hi Matt

My TEA-20 did that a few times about 1 year ago. The quick fix I found was to take off the gear shifter,( There are to bolts ,1 in front of the shifter and 1 behind ) I then stuck a screw driver down in and moved it out of gear and back to neutral. I found that I was trying to engage the gears when the tractor was being worked, or in other words hurrying up my shifts and this is why it would get stuck in a certain gear. I now take my time shifting and I have had no problems since. good luck

remove these 2 bolts on the shifter ,then stick a large flat head screw diver and move it out of gear and re install shifter
