Can some one tell me the correct hydraulic oil for my TO-20. Is it "Heavy Duty Universal Tractor Hyraulic & Transmission Oil" or "AW46 R&O Hydraulic oil." It's low and I hope thats the reason it will not lift a load, no load works fine.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Gene

Gene: The universal oil will be fine if your hydraulic pump is in good shape. This oil is thinner than the original oil that Harry Ferguson specified, so the test is hot summer weather. If your lift stops working when the oil gets hot (summer), then use GL1 80w90 or 80, or 90 weight oil. You could use MF part # M1103. It's the original oil, but GL1 is a good choice.

Randy: After I read your reply to Gene, I went to the parts house to check out the gear lubes. The one they carried,"Valvoline GL4 80w90", no GL1. Is the GL4 a different additive package for the 80w90 weight oil? Better? Thanks

Ernie, if you search the posts here using Hydraulic Oil as the key word, you should come up with lots of discussions on the correct oil. Most people recommend the original type oil or the GL-1. Others may have additives hazardous to your seals I am told.

Phil:Thanks for the suggestion on using keyword search, sure speeds up getting answers to a specific question. The local tractor dealers and parts stores said GL-1 wasn't available, but the local Texaco distributor had it in stock. The name is "Texaco Thuban SAE 80W-90",with an API service designation of GL-1. Now I don't have to worry about having the correct gear lube for a TO-30.
