Hi all!
I have an opportunity to buy a Howard Reduction Gearbox for a Ferguson TEA. How much would it be worth. I don't know its' internal condition (its' mounted in another TEA). Also, how hard are they to remove and install. Would I need to split my tractor?
Thanks!

From what I've heard, they are not easy to fit, even when you have split the tractor.

If any parts are worn, they are also apparently very difficult to find replacements for.

Price? well I'm sure I've seen them advertised for between 400 to 600 sterling.

Use? Great - wouldn't we all like another set of ratios like the 35 series.

I think the Howard Reduction boxes were all based on the epicyclic principle - and it's these gears that are the most difficult parts to find I would think. The brake band - to operate the reduction - would be relatively easy to fabricate. Getting gears hobbed or cut as a 'one-off' would be very, very expensive.

Just my tuppence worth.
