A fellow in our tractor club has a fergy te 20 with half tracks made by bombardier in canada. I have yet to see it. The serial number is TE98737. He claims that the oil filter is not external ,but internal. To change the oil fiter he has to takr a cover off the bottom of the oil pan and remove the filter from the inside. He also wants to restore it. It has layers of paint and none of then are gray. The base colour is red, but i say that its the primer. If it was gray at one point , he figures it had been sandblasted off. He's determined to paint it red. but i said its not right. He lives about an hour from me and i would like to see it for myself.. [ just a thought, if the unit came with half tracks, would this mean that it was designed for the snow and would they put the oil filter in there to keep it warmer?????]

I think HT hertz is right. this might be a tractor that was used for the antarctic expeditions. The original tractors also had reverse cooling fan blades on them to take warm air from the rad and blow it over the engine. they were painted red so they were easier to see in the white landscape. I read about them in "The Ferguson Tractor Story" by Stewert Gibberb (not sure of the spelling of the author's name) Great book.

One of my TEAs started its life not grey, but kind of a cream colour. I am totally sure about this; I'm restoring every part; it's definietly the case.
Just to say that for some reason that no one has been able to tell me, some of them did not start out grey, so your friend might be right.

Well, The SN suggests it is a 1949 TE20. The TE20's have a continental Z120 engine that does indeed have the oil filter located in the oil sump. It is accessed through a cover plate on the underside of the engine.

This does not sound like anything too special as far as TE-20's go. It just has after market tracks on it. It was gray at the start of it's life.
