Transporting a TO35

First, Thanks to all for your information on the weight of the TO35, you probably saved me from a very unpleasant experience.
After reading these posts I called the U-Haul dealer and the person I got this time (I talked to the general manager the first time), said no, I couldn't haul a tractor with there trailers, the trailers are meant only for cars.
I've called around here and it's like talking to a brick. (Rochester, NY isn't exactly farm country)
We bought 26 acres of woods last winter and, to make a long, painful story short, we have a half mile long right of way and no road. We thought we could cut the trees close to the ground and fill in low spots with stone. The tractor and loader would help save our backs. The property was also logged before we bought it, so it looks like a bomb went off up there - lots of back breaking work.
What I'm getting at is that we don't have a lot of resources for moving a tractor. I certainly can't afford buying a tractor from a dealer (they'd deliver).
Any suggestions for transporting? I've got a 3/4 ton Chevy van with a hitch, but no electric brakes (the U-haul had surge brakes) the other truck rental places said no to using their trucks.
The TO35 is 300 miles from here - that's the best I could do for a tractor/loader in this "area".
Thanks again for all your help

Hello
You might check your yellow pages under trailers (parts for building your own)or equipment rentals {Bobcats small crawlers etc.} they may offer transport services for fee. If not they may know someone who could do it. If you have seen anyone in your travels that has tractors for sale they may have a trailer and might be interrested in transporting your tractor.
Just a couple of ideas.

Greetings, I have a TO 35 with loader and rear tires filled with calcium. I weighed it at a truck scale this past summer and it weighs 4,400 lbs. without me sitting on it.

Hope it helps.

Another alternative is to rent a flat bed trailer with a ramp from a rental shop. They are available where I live but you must have at least a 3/4 ton vehicle and you seem to qualify. I don't recall the cost as I have a 1/2 ton and they would not rent to me.

Yes, I would agree except I think he said he did not have a brake hookup on his truck. As we all know, it is much harder to stop than to get it going and that is where safety is an issue. He would need to install a trailer brake hookup, perhaps a couple hundred dollars, on his vehicle.

Yes, I agree. No small detail. Glad you pointed that out.

Were I in your circumstances, I would look for someone to haul it for me. Probably if you shop around you can find someone with a trailer or rollback who will bring it to you for somewhere between $1 and $1.50 per loaded mile. That might sound expensive, but it's a helluva lot cheaper than you damaging a UHaul trailer or worse having an accident. This site has input from haulers under "Hauling Schedule" in the column at left. You might find someone there, but I'd inquire of local people, perhaps at a local tractor club for someone. If the tractor is down in central PA, email me, as I may know someone. I'm in VA, but I have used this guy and you would like him. Hope that helps.
