I couldn't find this in the archives so maybe someone can help. My 51 TO-20 will star and run but it floods pretty bad. I can cut the gas flow almost off and it will smooth out and run great until it run dry of gas and then I have to turn the gas back on. It runs good for a moment and then starts sputtering and blowing some black smoke like it id flooding again. Any suggestions.? Also I saw a couple of carburetor books on ebay for the TO-20. Do y'all know if they are any good or will help any?
Thanks for any help.

What Norm said! You can get a carb overhaul kit from suppliers in column at left and from your MF dealer. The carb is really quite easy to overhaul should you desire. It does sound like the float needle is stuck open, easy to fix. The regular TO-20 manual will show something of this, but really if you just look carefully as you disassemble it, you will be able to put it back together just fine.

Greetings, Assuming needles are set properly, another possibility lies in the float set up. Could be a small debris stuck or float could take on liquid , in other words it might be preferrable to open carb and clean it properly and inspect all mechanisms. It is pretty straightforward. Float should close needle when bowl is full hence being level with casing.

Hope it helps,

Norm
