I just recently purchased a TO-35, and according to this web site is a 1954. If this is a Ferguson tractor, why does the hood have Massey-Ferguson. Also, being this is my first tractor, is this a good first tractor? It runs and works great.

I picked up a TO35 (1955) and could not be happier with it. The other posting to yours said treat it good and it will treat you good. This is true. Be aware of his caution as well, for a smaller tractor (Just a bit bigger than an 8N) they have a suprising amount of power. You can outfit a TO35 with everything from a dirt scoop to a FEL and never regret it. I grew up on a farm where I had an old AC motor grader and a Farmall. Hadn't had a tractor in about 20 years and when I got my TO35 it was like starting over. Again, I think the TO35 is a good starter tractor and unless you have a very large place to take care of it may well be a good permanent tractor too. Just my thoughts. Thanks

It is not uncommon for tractors to be made to appear younger than they actually are by a bit of gentle cosmetic surgery - it's a bit like putting a 'Turbo' sticker on a 16 year old's car.

I would suggest that this has happened, or the old hood got trashed, and was replaced by a more modern one that also fitted.

The TO35 (very similar to our FE35 series) is a wonderful machine - I wish I had one as well as my TE20-85 - the extra gear ratio (H/L) makes it much more useful esp for rotovating.

Look after it well - anti-freeze, regular oil changes, and a little bit of TLC (Tender Loving Care) and it will serve you well, and never suffer a cracked block (caused by abuse, lack of maintenance or ignoring the temp gauge).

Abuse it, and you may expect it to bite back. These are small tractors, but are still able to kill or maim you very effectively if you do not treat them with the respect they deserve.

Don't want to scare you, but please be careful, and read any safety related manuals you can get. If you log onto www.hse.gov.uk there are a number of *.pdf files you can get from the 'Free leaflets' agricultural section on tractor safety - read them well.

You've got a good tractor to get started on, so have happy tractoring times.
