Does anyone know if there is a trench digger available to use on my TO-30? I have two 2,000 ft. trenches to dig and it would be a shame to let my Fergy sit while I shell out big bucks for a Ditch Witch rental. But maybe renting a 3pt trencher would cost as much as the Ditch Witch. Just a thought.

how deep do ya need to go??? there is a post on the n-board about trenching with a plow. It would only work if ya diddn't need to go too deep.

Thanks James - I think I'll go with the Ditch Witch type trencher. It would be a shame to injure my little girlfriend trying to dig a trench. All I really need is 4 to 6 inches wide by 30 inches deep. I must dig two separate trenches a minimum of 36 inches apart. One for water line and one for electric wires. County inspector says I cannot use the same trench for both. Bummer.

Hi Boogity,

You could try any of the 'Kubota' size tractor dealers to see if they rent Cat 1 trenchers - I know you can buy them. Or you could try a search on the internet for manufacturers, and see if they know of anyone who can rent.

Be careful though, they put a lot of strain on the lift pins, and lift pins are a pain to change - you need to take both trumpet housings off!!

It could take a while doing 4,000 feet with a Fergie - if possible I'd take the Ditch Witch route.

You mean chain trencher, don't you . . . . I was thinking of 3pt backhoe type stuff.

No, never seen one of those for sale or for hire, unless already attached to a Ditch Witch style piece of kit.

Dunno if you could get a slow enough ground speed for a trencher to work too well. From memory the DW style stuff has variable flow hydraulics to drive the wheels for slow/ultra slow speeds when trenching.

There was a trenching conversion built for the old Fordson Major/Super Majors back in the 60s, but they are a rare beast.
