I have a very frustrating problem with my TEA20. The original elbow connecting the manifold to the muffler broke. The muffler was also damaged and replaced.(I should explain that the muffler is the vertical type not the one running horizontally under the footplate.) I have obtained a replacement but now have the problem that the nuts keep coming loose after about 20minutes of use causing the stack to wobble and if left it would come off. I was given brass nuts, the same as those on the manifold, but they loosen as well and if I tighten them up when it is hot they end up getting deformed and on occasion splitting due to the heat. The ones that were originally on it weren't brass. I have tried similar ones from a muffler shop but still the same problem. VERY FRUSTRATING. Surely these must get replaced all the time, why won't it work? Has anyone got any suggestions????

Al's suggestion is a good one - but if you can't be bothered to go to your nearest shop, use two nuts on each thread. Do the first nut up tight, and then run the second one up against it, then tighten the two against each other using two spanners - no more shaking loose!! - instant lock nut.

I don't normally bother with anti-sieze on exhaust nuts as the heat usually burns anything off pretty quickly, but it may be worth a go with something like coppa-slip (sp?) as maybe the residue will help undo them one day.

Billy. I had the same problem. Go to your local machine shop and ask for 3/8x24 tpi long nuts as they were original equipment. You could also use star washers with the nuts. The long nuts provide the extra contact that will hold, use adequate quality anti-seize. Hope this helps.

Al.

Thanks for that Al. What do you mean by 'Anti Seize' as I am not familiar with this.

Anti Seize Hi Temp with Molybdenum. 700 deg F capabilities. Should be able to get a small quantity of same at your local machine shop.
