I've heard of the Ferguson 2085 a couple of times and I saw a picture of one. It looked a lot like a TE-20 and I was wondering how it differed? Thanks in advance. SAm in NS

Sam; The earlier TEA's did not have an 85mm bore. Paul

Hi Sam, I have owned a couple of 2085's. They are basicly the same as a TE20, except that they have a a standard motor co. engine. It was made in England and is a very good engine, about 4 HP more than the TE with the contenental engine. overall a nice tractor..... ..

Dave,
why do people use the term 2085? I know that it refers to the cylinder bore but normally in Australia they just refer to them as TEA20 with the A having the 85 mm bore and TE20 having the 80 mm bore.

Damon,
Unfortunately it's not that straightforward.
TE means Tractor made in England.
TO means Tractor made Overseas (US).
The "A" indicates a gasoline engine made by the Standard Motor Company in Coventry.
TE20, with no "A" in the middle, indicates an engine made by Continental.
2085 means TEA20 with 85 mm bore (serial # > ~172000)
2080 means TEA20 with 80 mm bore (up to ~172,000)

But, just to keep it confusing, people often refer to the TE series when they mean all the models with Standard engines. For example, there were also the TED (paraffin), and the TEF (diesel), both made by Standard.

Damon, I don't know where the '2085' term came from, But, That is what they are commonly called in Canada. As you stated, its at t20 with 85mm bore. I think Harry wanted to keep us guessing!! Dave...

Dave,
it is interesting that terms differ for the same tractor in different countries. Before I visited this board I had never heard that term before.

Regards,
Damon
