Ferguson Questions

My brother bought what I think is a 1949 Ferguson TO-20, from the 4 digit number stamped under the steering number, although I'm now seeing things about variations of this model such as the TE and the TEAD, etc. We can find NO other markings on this tractor, so how can we positively ID the machine?

Other questions:

1. What type of oil goes in the engine and the transmission?

2. The tractor was converted to 12V, as it runs fine with a 12v battery, but the alternator has all the wires disconnected, which can't be good. Is there a resource to show how that should be hooked up?

Thanks guys in advance. This looks like a great site!

Scott

Can you tell what kind of alternator it is? Does it have an internal regulator, for example?
A common conversion is to use a Delco-Remy 7127, which does have an internal regulator. This model has one output terminal on the back (stud with nut), and a two-prong connector that goes in the side, at the back.
If yes, I can send you a schematic. It's pretty simple.

Yea, sure sounds like that is what he has! On output on the back and a 2 prong connector on the rear side (two wires out of it, one larger than the other)

Thanks guys!!!

The serial number is on the plate by the steering column. TE-20's will be TE#### and TO's will be TO#### the year of manufacture can be looked up at the serial numbers link to the left.

The oil is 30wt. 6 qts. for the motor
and 90 weaight mineral gear oil for the Trans. Hydro. system. (24 qrt)

Purchace a manual and owners guide as they are very usefull. see the links to the left for manuals.
