What was the last ser.# for to35? What should I look for? Tractor has not run for 9 yrs., motor is free. Should I repair or part it out. BURT.

The last SNs for the TO-35 were 201273 (diesel), 200873 (gas deluxe), and 199773 (gas special) - all in 1959.

I believe yours is a 1958. Here are the SN ranges for 1958:

Gas Deluxe: 178216 - 188850
Gas Special: 183348 - 185503
Diesel: 180742 - 187218

The Deluxe (live power) in good shape, not restored but good working condition, is worth maybe $3500 and the Standard (not live power but live lift) is worth maybe $3150 or so in same condition. As Mike says, these are excellent all around tractors, especially for that money. If your engine needs overhaul, and if you have to farm that out, you might be looking at $1500 or so, just for that. Check the big ticket stuff, like engine, rear tires, tranny, lift, clutch, and steering, and if there isn't too much wrong, and if you don't have to pay too much for it, fix it and keep it. However, it you are going to end up with $4500 in a $3500 tractor, you may want to part it out. Hope that helps.

Thanks for all the help. The TO35 is a 1957 with live pto, rubber fair, rims poor, steering a bit loose, the loader is a MF pipe loader, starter is engaged, clutch was stuck, also was stuck in gear loose now, hood & grill above average, fenders poor & the tool box in the fender is no good, after market swinging drawbar, needs steering wheel, tack. says 3700hrs. could be orig. ALL castings are stamped MHF . MF engine & hydr. parts are easy to find new in this area, but how easy are fenders to find and odds & ends? I must confess I am more of a ford guy but couldn't resist this one. BURT.

Fenders and tool box in the fender are available. Hardest thing to find for the 35 is usually a grille or hood. Sounds like you don't need either of those. Tractometer and cables are available, unless it has been converted to alternator, in which case you may not have a place to hook up the cable. If it still has the generator, you should be ok there. Steering wheel no problem. Steering box is different story, not easy to find and expensive if you do. MHF stands for Massey Harris Ferguson. Castings were stamped that way during the transition years between the (Harry) Ferguson period and the Massey Ferguson period.

I don't know serial #'s too good, but probably a '56' or '57'. The '35' (with live power) is in my opinion the best 'antique' tractor you could own. You can restore it to look at, or work a small farm with it, or both. You decide if it's worth the $ to repair, but for old iron, it's the best.
