Can I use 3ph hyd for a loader?

Can anyone tell me if I can use the hyd for the 3ph to run a loader? It's a 1954 TO-??. I tried connecting into to port under the right side of the seat (1/2" NPT) but I get no movement on the loader. If I hold the loader valve, the 3ph raises to the top, no matter where the 3ph control is located. Is the enough pressure/volume to run a loader? Am I connecting to the wrong place?

Thanks
Paul

You can do it alright but if the loader is the least bit substantial you may find it is very hard on the front end. I had one and took it off and sold it. It was so hard to steer with a load in it that it just wasn't worth it - plus you are tying up the 3 ph so you can't use rear implements. I also did some damage to the bracket that holds the axle pin which was lots of work to fix, so now I carry stuff on a rear-mounted platform instead.
Don't mean to sound so negative but this was my experience. Of course you could always buy a second tractor, and have one dedicated to the loader :)
At any rate, be careful not too carry too heavy a load. (A bucket full of rocks turns out to be too much.)

why don,t you run a pump off the front off the engine thats the way mine is , running it off the tranny , as soon as you stick your clutch in you have no more loader use.

I've not done it, so this is not first hand experience, but I think you have to chain the lift down. Search the archives, and also the archives on the N Board, where you probably will find more references to this subject than you will here.

If you let the hydraulic linkage go to the top of its lifting stroke it will automatically stop pumping, so you have to stop the linkage going to the top of the lifting cycle. Don't leave the hydraulic pump running under pressure though, or you will do some damage to it. To do the job correctly you need a spool valve so you can divert pressure to the hydraulic ram on the loader, when you let go of the lever on the valve the oil will just circulate freely with no pressure. Basically thats it, but without knowing more about the loader you intend to use, I cant give you a more detailed explanation.

I've just come back in the house from working on the loader. I was able to get it working a bit, but it looks like the transmission cannot hold enough fluid to operate the loader. It is a Lord loader with 4 cylinders, (quite a bit of fluid to fill them all) and when I lower the loader down fully, fluid runs out the front of the transmission. Looks like I'll need to add another reservoir. Any thoughts?

There is a way to connect the intenal hydraulics of the tractor to run the loader. It akes some mumbo jumbo with the the hydraulics. You are better off with a front mounted pump with proper controls and an oilsump for the loader. That way you do not tie up the 3pth. Good luck.
