To behave as per design intent a clutch friction plate must be perfectly polished and smooth (not the case with a new clutch plate) and the clutch cover plate and flywheel must also be similarly smooth, true and polished - any failing in any of these areas will lead to grabbing/snatching. Often, when a new clutch is put in, neither the cover plate not flywheel are checked or faced-off on a lathe to restore surface condition - so although the slip has been eliminated, the cause of the snatching remains. Even with all new components, a period of bedding in will occur, when the surfaces are polished by use - during this time, snatch will also occur, and then dissappear once run in. A badly worn clutch plate will also snatch for a while before failing/slipping badly. I am happy to say that none of the TEs I've driven have suffered from this fault unless they have a known clutch maintenance issue. Hope this helps.
