I recently purchased a brush hog and during hook up found that my PTO seal was leaking. I'm having trouble locating the correct seal. Could you provide me with your source or part number? Any help would be appreciated.

Good morning .

Further to John
I replaced the bearing on the pto with a double seal type and placed 2 each 5/16 wide seals packed with grease. the double seal bearing won't let in any condensation in from the transmission oil and the grease packed double seals on the outboard will saave the rest. Nothing out , nothing in. Then the cap. When you need new grease just insert with care a needle point grease attachment with a few shots. Your then good for a long time.

My 2 cents worth.

Al.

I did one on a TEA the bearing was bad on the end this caused a bit of wobble so I took it to a dealer they put new seal and bearing on and cost was only 25.00 or so for all of it. You could upgrade the PTO shaft if the old one is a 1 and 1/8 type another thing I found is getting dirt around the PTO seems to wear the seal out I had a cover that came with the tractor that just screwed on to cover the PTO shaft probably a good idea to have one.

Again, this is covered in the archives, but it is an easy job to do, though I have never had to do it yet.

Park the front end in a 2 foot deep ditch so the oil runs forward (saves draining the trans) and undo the bolts you can see round the PTO shaft.

Withdraw the shaft, remove the old seal, replace it, and put it back together - but be very careful not to score or damage the lip of the new seal even slightly, otherwise you will be no better off.

I think that's about it. The job should take about 45 minutes.

To make inserting the PTO shaft easier, once you have shut the tractor off, put it in 1st gear and engage the PTO - this will stop things rotating and make reinsertion easier.

If you have a shop manual, working out what you need to do is easier.

I have done this and agree with James. Get it wrong and you are no better off. MINE STILL LEAKS. Plus i now have a stuck PTO lever so will be doing the job and taking James's advise about 1st etc.

Good Luck
