Simplest solution is probably a trip to the nearest breaker's yard, but otherwise, hang what is left of your spring on a stout nail or hook, and measure the distance the spring moves (its extension in mm) when you hang a known weight on it. This will give you a known value, which will be a constant, and can be checked against other springs (ie in catalogues). You will also need to know its length (or what it was before it broke), and how many full turns/coils there were on it before it broke. Wire diameter, and end fittings will also be needed. You could then approach a spring manufacturer or spring stockist to see if they had a close match for what you are looking for. From memory, it was a strongish spring, so you could try the simple(?) approach and destroy an old door closing spring or similar just to see if it would work . . . . Just some thoughts.
