I had the same problem and I didnt have the old spring to look at. The shop manual says the spring length is 4 inches but can be shortened to 3 3/4 inches if the throttle slips. I used a 3 3/4 inch piece of screen door spring. Seems to work fine. btw..Did you find a factory spring?

Contact Mac Tractor Parts at 1-800-992-4742. They have a supply of good used Ferguson parts.

Simplest solution is probably a trip to the nearest breaker's yard, but otherwise, hang what is left of your spring on a stout nail or hook, and measure the distance the spring moves (its extension in mm) when you hang a known weight on it.

This will give you a known value, which will be a constant, and can be checked against other springs (ie in catalogues).

You will also need to know its length (or what it was before it broke), and how many full turns/coils there were on it before it broke.

Wire diameter, and end fittings will also be needed.

You could then approach a spring manufacturer or spring stockist to see if they had a close match for what you are looking for.

From memory, it was a strongish spring, so you could try the simple(?) approach and destroy an old door closing spring or similar just to see if it would work . . . .

Just some thoughts.
