I WAS PLOWING WITH MY 1953 FERGIE TO20 AND CAME TO THE END OF THE FURROW AND WENT TO LIFT THE PLOW AND IT WOULDN'T GO UP. THE ONLY THING I EVER NOTICED WITH THE HYDRAULICS WAS THEY WOULD SHAKE A LITTLE BIT BEFORE THEY WOULD LIFT. BUT, IT NEVER FAILED TO LIFT THE IMPLEMENT. EVER SINCE, I HAVE HAD NO LUCK WITH GETTING THEM TO WORK. IT'S FULL OF GOOD CLEAN OIL. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED. THANKS.

With engine off, remove right side cover and reach into fluid and see if the "ears" of the control rod are attached to the control valve on the back of the pump. (Look at pic in manual.) If so, keep your arm out and crank engine and try to raise lift and see if fluid is squirting from top or gurgling at bottom, an indication of where the problem might be. As the other post said, read the archives. Read the manual. You can look on the 9N board for posts from Zane, who has good info on these lifts (about the same as 9N). One last comment: if you have a TO-20, it probably is not a '53, and vice versa.

Brad, there are lots of good advice on hydraulic problems similar to yours on this site if you search on "hydraulics".

I had this problem too, until I topped off the fluid. Are you certain the fluid level is adequate? I assumed it would capture air. I just dropped the control and waited and then it would lift again. It did this over and over, until I addressed the oil level. It has not done it since.
