I posted a couple of weeks ago as I was concerned I had not put the oil filter on my t0-20 properly, and I still don't know if I have. I filled the engine with oil and started the tractor. It had 20 pounds pressure at start up, however after about a minute or so, it dropped to between 5-10. I was using it to bushhog, and occasionally it would bounce up to 15-20 pounds, but mostly ran in the 5-10 pound range on the guage as best as I could determine. When I put on the filter cover, I pushed the filter assembly up, but could not really tell how it was supposed to fit in the pan. Someone posted I should have seen an oil pick up hose come out a small opening in the oil filter cover assembly, I did not see any such hose. I could not get the filter assembly out the opening of the pan when I had the cover off, so I can't really see what is happening in the pan. Do I have a problem because the intake hose is not coming out the bottom of the oil filter cover assembly? What do you guys suggest I do, take off the whole pan and see exactly what I have? Take the cover off and see if I can spin the assembly to find the hose location? keep running and don't worry?

You may just have some wear on the crank bearings. Or your oil pump may need a rebuild. Sounds like you have the filter installed right and your engine may last a long time with the pressure you have now.

Last time you posted you didnt say what engine you had, that is why you didnt get proper information. From what you say you have a TO or a TE20 fitted with a Continental Z120 engine, well Continental engines dont have a great oil pressure and 5 to 10 seems the norm for most of them. Just make sure you have the right grade of oil in it and change it regularly and change the air filter oil every working day too as it says in the book.

Actually, I have the exact situation going on.

Just purchased a 51 TO-20, runs great, pulls a 6' finish mower with ease.

But, Oil pressure at startup is 20lbs, then drops off to 5-10 with occasional bursts to 20lbs.

All new fluids/filters in all systems of this one. I can verify that the filter in my TO-20 is installed per specs.

Can't wait to find out if this is normal or not.
