Ferguson TO-35 Clutch Won't Disengage

My 1956 Ferguson TO-35 Deluxe (2-stage clutch) will not disengage. Even after adjusting the pedal with no free-play, the gears grind when putting in gear. More importantly, when I depress the clutch the tractor keeps on going. I have tried adjusting the clutch pedal play to the extreme in both directions and every place in between (including what the manual says) with the exact same results. Is there a way to un-stuck this thing or is the clutch shot? If it needs replacing, is it easy to do without special tools and jigs once the tractor is split?

I need to bush hog my weeds soon, so any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Brian

Brian, You should very much check Big Dean's website below and he can ship a CD with all his knowledge as a Fergie mechanic for the TO35.
I bought and adjusted the secondary as per his specs and it works great now. The price is very reasonable and it is a treasure for Fergie owners.

Good Luck

Tractor was being used a couple times a week moving dirt with a box blade -- lots of shifting between forward and reverse. Set up a week and then following week problem started.

Have you checked the clearance on the secondary cluch adjustment through the bottom of the clutch housing, 3 adjusting screws and the clearance should be .090" (90thou)adjust it till you have a nice sliding fit of the gauge between the screw head and the clutch frame. If that doesnt cure it most likely it will be an engine out job. If you need more info let me know

I will check on the tractor tomorrow (it is at my lot across town). I see these bolts on the cutaway drawing in the owners manual -- looks like there is a jam nut?
This type of info obviously comes from a shop manual or overhaul manual -- do you know of a source for these manuals? This tractor was purchased new by my father-in-law and I intend to keep it for a very long time. I'm sure I will run into other in-depth repairs in the next few years. There is really no source for me to get info for this tractor as all of the local shops consider a 1996 an "old" tractor.
I will check the adjustment and re-post any further questions.
Thanks!!!Brian

Yes it is a lock-nut..(jam-nut as you call it) The information comes from many years of being invilved with these tractors. As the other reply says. you can obtain a service manual from the coloumn on left side of this page, but there are plenty places you can get a service manual from, plus you can always ask on here too. Best of luck with your repair and I hope that it is simply adjusment and doesn't require anything too drastic.

Check the links on the left side of your screen. Operators, Shop, and parts manuals are available. The shop manual is approx 50 bucks but is worth it I'm sure. Don't have one myself but if ever I need to do more than minor adjustments I'd jump on one. The parts manual is approx the same price but probably worth every nickel.
