I found a TO-35 for sale locally, looks like it is in very good (but unrestored) condition and runs very well. The asking price is $3000....is that reasonable?

The serial number is 140XXX...what year would that make it? It is mostly red is color, would that be correct for this year?

It has a bucket loader on it that I would not need....could this be a factory item? It looks very substantial with tube shaped arms. Is there a market for these?

Finally, are these good tractors? I would be using it for light duty like mowing etc.

Don't be so quick to disregard the usefullness of a loader. It's a darn good replacement for a wheel barrow to start with. Once you have one, you won't want to be withoout it.

If it is the Deluxe, with two stage clutch, it may be a real good buy. If it is the Special, with single stage clutch, it is still a good buy, in good shape of course. Loaders with front pump and full hydraulic operation (two valve levers) bring as much as $500, somewhat less if it uses the trip bucket and / or doesn't have the front pump. Of course the condition of the pump and the control valve has a lot to do with price. These are transitional tractors, from the old to the modern. They have the simplicity of the older tractors, and most of the usefulness of the modern ones. They are in demand and parts are not difficult to get.

In 1955 the TO35 had grey sheet metal and green powertrain and that paint scheme was used during that year only. In 1956 and 1957 they were painted with creme sheet metal but retained the green powertrain and then, in 1958, after the dual line policy was abandoned, they were painted red and grey the same as the rest of the tractors in the line (MF50 and MF65).

You wont find a finer tractor, I own two of them.
price is very good espically in the described shape. You can sell the loader but I would keep it sooner or later you will find uses for it...
you will be well pleased

I have recently bought what was suppose to be a T035. I believe it might be a MF35. What is the difference. Give me one suttle hint. Thanks.

I purchased a 35 in the spring of '02. It runs great. I have since cleaned & painted all but the sheet metal (plan to do that soon), have only had to do minor mechanical work such as new water pump, new rear axle seals & grease, along with rewired electrical. They are easy to work on along with this forum will always be there to provide answers. Parts are also no problem to locate. As Paul says check for water in the hydaulic oil or engine oil. I never regret buying mine and I paid about that w/o a loader, but with a chopper & back blade.

George,
]
The color for that SN would be gray/metallic green. If the tires are in reasonably good condition, the hydraulics work reasonably well, and there is no evidence of water in the oil, the tractor is worth the $3000.

According to the Serial Numbers section on the left, it would be a late 1954 or early 1955 model.

Red tinwork and grey castings was common over here in the UK - don't know about over your way.

You can always sell loaders - at least you can over here.

The '35' series was a damn fine tractor, ideal for mowing, ploughing, grading, winching lifting - in fact, almost anything you can think of.

Others would agree I am sure. Over here, even in rough condition they still command around 1700 to 2000 pounds - an indication of how highly we rate them.
