If I am correct, the firing order on a TO-30 Z129 is ;1 at top left on rotor,3 at bottom left,4 at bottom right, and 2 at top right. In other words a counterclockwise rotation. My tractor will only run smoothly when ;1 is at top left,3is at top right,4 is at bottom left and 2 is at bottom right. Can anyone explain to me why this is the case? Thanks,Milton K.

Don't always assume that the number 1 plug wire should be "top left" even if the book shows it there. It depends on how the distributor was installed. Make sure the number one plug wire goes to the distributor post that the rotor is pointing at when the #1 piston is at TDC. Once you have established this, run the rest of the wires based on the firing sequence. My #1 plug goes to the lower left.
