I have a TO35 and the implements I have been getting are all 6'. They only stick out a couple of inches on either side and I've had no problems. I'm wondering if a 6' bush hog is too wide. I think a 5' would really be too small and I would be spending extra time mowing. On the other hand I don't want to hang a mower. What do you guys use?

It's easier to live with one too small than too big. I'd stick with the 5 footer. An overworked brush hog can make life miserable. Also better the hog fits inside your rear tire footprint. If you don't run over it, you won't accidently cut it.

Old Cane,
If there is a King Kutter dealer in your neighbor-hood, they make a 66 inch mower if you think that the six footer will give you a problem sticking out beyond the wheels.

TSC carries King. I'll have a look but I never saw one there before. I was joking but glad you called me on it. Thanks.

Thanks, Jerry. I didn't even think to see if they have a web site.

Anybody ever use a Rhino brand?

All farm equipment is HP rated, and is thus a good guideline, or starting point. The wider cutter should be fine for pasture or grass work, but when cutting brush and small trees may overtax your tractor. I use a 4' cutter behind my TO30, and tall(hood high), heavy, thick grass will bog it down, necessitating first gear to avoid abusing my prize toy. The rule of thumb to avoid overtaxing a tractor is: open the throttle quickly while using the impliment, and if the engine does not quickly rev up you are overtaxing it.

Thanks Ray but I am rather well versed in mowing. But I just got this tractor (had a 640 that I used a 6' on) and was wanting to know what size folks commonly use with it. It has the HP for what I plan to do with it, just wanting to know it the 6' has caused anyone grief because of the size.

Old Cane...I have never used anything but a 6' mower on any of my tractors...from a 9N Ford, TO-20 and MF-35. It's all in how smart you use them. If you mow around a lot of stuff...the 6'er will swing further in the back and bang in to things...but if you're mowing fields...their perfect if your engine is in good shape and you keep the blades sharp. Hardest part would be opening up a field of tough, heavy stuff. Use chains to hold up for first round, then lower...if it pulls engine down...move out a little. I use a King Kutter as it is lighter and won't make the frontend of tractor too light. I also set the mower around 4 to 5" to miss most rocks and junk...you can mow too close and hit everything under the sun and tear up your equipment. If you hit too much...raise it up a little. Or...you can be like others and use a 4'er. I always wanted to tell them that the devil hates a coward...or to overhaul theirs and see what it would really do with an engine that isn't tired. Oh well, to each...his own. L8R....Fred OH
