Afternoon Everyone. I replaced the battery cables on my TEA-20 a few weeks back and noticed that the tractor takes a bit longer to roll over now. The battery is brand new. Can anyone tell me what gauge of cable I need.I think I may have the wrong ones on. Thanks ,,, Barry

The original cables are "O" gauge. Number 2 gauge cables will suffice if you keep the connections clean and tight. The wimpy 6ga cables made for 12v systems will NOT carry sufficient current in a 6v system. I found on my TO30 that the ground (+) cable had very high resistance, this turned out to be in the bolt connections between the cable and the engine block. There are 4 bolt connections(castings and sheet metal) between the starter and the ground cable itself. I installed a longer + cable and attached it to a starter mounting bolt, this resulted in great starting.(Got the idea from an old Case diesel tractor configuration) The 6v battery really spins the starter in freezing weather. I reinstall an original when showing though.

Just one more comment if I may. My TEA-20 has been converted to 12 volt,so saying that would the gauge still be the same as 6 volt?? Thanks for your input Ray and Marlowe

you might like to try the starter switch on the top of the clutch housing under the battery. You can adjust it but the contacts could be burned.
