Check your air cleaner. I had the same thing happen to me,I checked everything gas, points, gas filter with no luck. Then my wife said Did you check the air cleaner? It was plugged tight. Cleaned it out ,put in new oil and the old girl is running better than ever.

I am new to this tractor game but I really like my 51 TO30. I cleaned my air cleaner out with kerosene. My screen was also pretty rough but it does not appear to come out and nobody has a replacement. I need to replace my clamp that holds the bottom of the air cleaner on. Anybody know where I could find one?

I had the same problem this past spring with my tea20. Running smooth as silk at the start and, by the end, barely running at all. Turned out to be fouled plugs. I had been sold the wrong type; my engine is a bit worn and the plugs I was told were the correct ones (different brand than I had previously used) were too cold and got severely carboned up. Replaced them with the correct plugs and so far so good.

well, prof, I advise pulling the float bowl. Five years' accumulation of rust may have migrated from the gas tank into your float bowl, restricting downward motion of the float and thus preventing any real gas flow into the bowl. This happened to me, so this is the voice of experience. I put in an inline filter and that stopped the ferric migration. Good luck!

Old Professor.... Sounds like you have already tuned it up but....I'd first start by checking to see if its charging, Then check the points setting and timing....and lastly check fuel flow to the carb.(and mixture settings) to see if your getting enough fuel and check your Air cleaner ..it may even be stale or old fuel.
Hope this helps you post back and let us know what you find...
Best wishes...
