My Harry Ferguson TO20 with a TSX 458 carb cuts off when the choke is released after start up. It will keep running if choke is kept pulled out.
I have removed and cleaned the fuel sediment bowl and the oil bath airfilter. The carburator has been off twice, cleaned out, but the problem is still there. I even removed the fuel bowl from the gas tank and drained the tank, still have same problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Almost have to say float level, or screen in carb. ... I believe this model has one. Follow the fuel flow from the sediment bowl to the needle valve in the carburettor. You"ll find the problem. An in line fuel filter just before the carb. is really nice and enexpensive.

Thanks for the info. I'll check float level and also for a screen in the carb.

Hi Bob
I would check your carb if its a TSX 458 then it is a carb for a To-30. The carb for a To-20 is TSX 321 I will look I think I have a extra one rebuilt and ready to go. Scott

Scott, Thanks for the information. I had noticed that the TSX458 was actually for a T030 but I've had this "Old Harry Ferguson T020" for 10 years and this is the carb that was on it when I "adopted" it and it has run great all this time.

have you actually checked the flow into the carb, you may find that the flow into the carb is restricted at the point it feeds into the carb, try the elbow going into the carb there is a filter inside some of them, it may be that is partially blocked. and have you checked that the main jet screw is adjusted correctly (has someone played around with it without you knowing..it happens) has it been screwed in, cutting the fuel supply down.

john (UK) Just to let you know, I found the main jet screw turned almost all the way in. It wasn't like that before, so, as you said, someone must have been playing around with it. My tractor is parked in a shelter but is not secure. Thanks for the info.

Glad it was all so simple in the end for you but it can be so frustrating at the time. You could try tightening the gland nut a little on the main jet to stop this happening again. Hope you catch the joker.

john(UK),
Thank you for the information. I didn't realize that there was a filter in the elbow going to the carb. I'll also check that Jet screw adjustment

john(UK),
Thank you for the information on my "Old Harry Ferguson". I did not realize that there may be a filter in the elbow going to the carb. I'll also check that jet screw.
