Just bought a 1951 TO-30. I am stipping it down and plan to paint everything. Sorry if I am going to offend any hardcore Ferguson restorators, but I think I am going with a blue or red chassis and grey all around. My question is; Do I have to paint the engine with High Heat paint? If so, any suggestions? Can I use Rustoleum? I have the equipment and the ability to professionally spray but I would like to do a few parts at a time and set-up and clean-up is too lengthy for small jobs.

The tractors originally were painted using just an enamel paint at the factory so you dont need any special high temp paint. Worst part of repaint as you know is cleaning the thing down....best of luck with it

I used Krylon spray paint -- a decent paint with good coverage (multiple cans, sure, but like you could spread the job out over time). With its 12 min dry time it gave me more flexibility than other sprays I tried. Good color match on the touch-up areas as well. I got my tractor at a relative's estate sale, where for at least two years it sat under a maple tree and grew moss. Krylon made such a change in its appearance, it made the wife so happy.

It is your tractor so paint it any color you wish. You are the one who will get to enjoy looking at it and using it each day. You do not need high heat paint although the manifold will discolor but this is normal. I like to take as many of the small parts off as I can and then paint them with a air spray unit all at once. The spray cans are hard to get consistant color and get pretty expensive before you get finished but once again it is up to you.
Good luck and let us see it once you finish.
