I think I blew out my voltage regulator. Here's what happened...

I was removing my starter switch (the actual switch pushed by the gear shift)because I detected a small voltage drop from my + terminal of the battry. The post on the switch to which the battery terminal was attached seemed to have an occasion short. While I was working on the starter switch post, I also removed my voltage regulator in order to polish the contacts. When I reinstalled the regulator I managed to mix up two wires (even though I color coded the ends). I switched the wire that should have been mounted up on the back of the box on the lower middle terminal and the one that should have been there up on the back.

I was going to just by-pass the starter switch until I could find a replacement (question #1, where can I find replacement startes switch?) I got a good spark when re-attaching the incorrectly wired regulator then immediately saw my mistake and changed the wires back(question #2, should I get current from the + terminal of the battery when I test the middle lower terminal of the regulator?) I get 6 volts from + battery terminal to the middle lower regulator terminal (motor not running). Where can I get a new regulaor???

Finally, when fixing up my mess, I am tempted to put in an ammeter. I have a knock out on the dash, but no meter. Any comments on what fits, etc?

Thanks.

Sparex do a starter switch for the TE20 and it is almost certainly the same as the TO20 The Sparex part # is S42538 and it should be available from your local dealer, they should be able to supply a regulator and an ammeter too

Just a note. Be sure that you have a TO20 and not a TE20. The electrical parts are Delco on the TO20, but they are Lucas on the TE20. I'm not sure about the regulator, but I'm sure that the starter switch is not interchangable between the two models.

CarQuest and NAPA both carry regulators, starter switches, but can't speak on H. Ferguson ammeters. The YT sponsors listed under "marketplace" also supply these parts.
