I've looked through the archives and noticed one about a Wal-Mart brand fluid being a sub for the Massey #. I was at TSC the other day and looked at some (only the price). I didn't realize the trans/hydro fluid being discussed was actually a mineral oil. I thought it would just be called a mineral oil. I was thinking the discussions here I keep seeing are whether you can use a regular t/h fluid or if you have to use a mineral oil. I didn't look closely at their fluid since I assumed I would need to find a dealer and get the correct stuff.

So, does anyone know if TSC has a fluid I can use (TO-35)?

Is approx. $5 a gallon about right?

On another note, does anyone know if TSC has a correct oil filter for a TO-35? The kids working there know next to nothing so I need to find part numbers on my own. If I asked them, I'm sure they would take me to the automotive oil filters and say "here you go".

Fram sells a filter to fit. The number is C3, and it's a cartridge type. TSC has them in my area, and they're not in the automotive section of department stores.

What you want is GL-1. I doubt brand makes any difference. $20 is a good price. $25 is at the high end, but not outta sight. NAPA sells it in my area, as well as the tractor stores, but the latter (and presumably WalMart) are cheaper.

Was in a Wal-Mart the other day and noticed they now have 5 gal pails of GL-1 for I think about $20. Seemed like a real deal. Anyone have comments on Wally's GL-1?

Look in your owners manual and find the spec that covers the transmission/hydraulic fluid. Then buy the fluid that meets that spec. Brand doesn't make a difference.

Thanks, why didn't I think of that.

I was looking for specific recommendations.

TSC has trans-hydro oil it is labeled FORD tran-Hydro oil 1939 -1952 ford tractors. It runs $16 -2 gal jug. 5 gal may be cheeper if available. What you are really looking for is the GL-1 classification. The GL-5 stuff reportably attacks the bronze gears in the trans.

That oil at TSC here is just under $12 for 2 Gal. It's about $25 for 5 Gal. Must be cheaper here. I take it that the answer is no, TSC doesn't have the right stuff. I'm glad I got the answer here because like the Bud said I could not get the right answer there.

Man I know what you mean about the people working at TSC. This one near me never ceases to amaze me. It should have gone under long ago. Kids there can't even show where stuff is - they don't know.
