When I lower an implement on my TO-30, I position the control lever partway down and it doesn't "crash" to the ground. If I place the lever in the full down position quickly, it will fall quickly. It will fall faster with heavier loads. Try moving the control lever to a position between neutral and full down and see if that helps.

On the Ferguson 20 and 30, your hydraulics do not have position control and your lift will naturally be either up or down with no "feathering" capability unless you install a Zane Thang or Fergie Postioner or comparable device. Check the archives for more on those items. If you are lowering with an implement attached it will naturally fall rather quickly without position control.
