Thanks for all the help (below) ... still not 100% sure but there is a number hand-stamped into the left rear of the engine block (up high) which reads SC93354EVR, does that mean anything. Also, under where the hood covers the dash, there is a metal tag saying the tractor was sold by Massey Harris Ferguson (Canada), so I guess this would make it a 1953 or later, is that correct? Man, this engine is really stuck and is rusty inside (everywhere) like my friend has never seen, and he's seen the inside of a lot of engines.

Hi Mike Using records of owners, posting the information of their tractors on varios web sites I have records that show an engine with a s/n SC118677E was fitted into a 1956 TE?-20
Also an engine with a s/n SC78510E was fitted into a 1954 TE?-20
Also an engine with a s/n SC58424E was fitted into a 1953 TEA-20

Trying to do a bit of maths it could be seen that about 20,000 engines were produced each year and as yours is 14844 more than the 1954 engine and 25,000 less than the 1956 engine it would in my deductions make it a 1955 engine.

But as they say anything can be done with numbers

If only more owners out there would register their tractor on this site, more information would be made avalable for everyones use. Come on YT lets have an advertised effort to get more tractors registerd.

as I fall of my soap box it just leaves me to ask "is this of any help"

Hi Hurdy

Nothing hard just click on Tractor Registry on the left of this page, and follow the instructions but first look at the tractors registerd under TEA 20 and click on the blue high lighted serial no. and it will show you a completed form. You may need to get more info of your tractor before you register yours.

Glad to hear you are intrested in helping build this site, as it's only owners like your self that will help keep this the best tractor site

Just read your original posting again...so your tractor is a TEA20 with a Standard Motors engine that was made in UK 85mm petrol engine. Parts are available for this quite easily there arent many parts that you cant get.

Yes it would be later than 1953 how much later we wouldnt know unless you can read the serial number of that tag. (along the bottom edge) the number you quote is the engine number (Standard Motors 85mm Petrol)

So that tag is the serial number tag is it? I must look more closely next time I'm over there. It is such a skinny tag (and I thought the s/n tag was missing from the front panel of the dash) I didn't really look at it very closely. I'll get back to you fellows, thanks for the help so far.

If the tag you mean is the one under the steering wheel by the throttle lever..It should be rectangular about 4" x 2" held on with 4 rivets...number is along bottom edge

Nope, the one I am referring to is a very skinny tag about 1/2" X 2" that says "Sold by Massey-Harris-Ferguson Canada" on it. Actually, this tag is on the top edge of the dash tin but is covered by the hood when the hood is lowered in place. There is no tag such as you describe on the dash. The front rims are 16" rims if that means anything.

Thats a pity there is no number...I wonder why they have to remove the tag...must be something shady I think....lol As far as I can tell they fitted all the TEA20 with the 85mm engine with those wheels...so it looked bigger, the 400 x 19 cut in too much anyway
