Can anyone advise me where I can get hold of an air cleaner for a TO35 Diesel(Standard Engine), new or second hand?

Maybe this is a stupid question considering your search for an air cleaner. But . . . can you buy engine parts e.g. for a rebuild where you live? I had an Allis Chalmers tractor with the same engine, and got rid of it due to unavailablitiy of parts. It was an ED-40, E.D. stood for "English Diesel." Seems Ford and Ferguson used the same engine, i.e. Ricardo Brothers Standard Diesel.

Ricardo only had patents on the combustion chambers not the engine, the engine was manufactured by Standard Motors and was designated 23c.As far as I can recollect Ford never used that engine, you may be getting confused with the fact that Ford did use the Standard Motors/Ferguson 85mm Spark engine in their Dexta tractor, they already had their own 3 cylinder diesel that was made for them by Perkins and that engine was the forerunner of the 3 cylinder Perkins diesel (3-152)that was fitted to the MF35 and its variants, the Ford version was 3-144,. The answer to your question about availability of spares is yes you can get spares for that engine.

I may be wrong about Ford tractors using the Standard 23C engine, but I know that I owned three different tractors with popular U.S. names that all had the Standard 23C engine. I bought a TO35 just to have spare parts for my Allis Chalmers ED-40, which also had the Standard 23C engine. All three of the tractors were in the 1956-1961 year range, but I cannot remember what the third was. If not a Ford, maybe an Case or International? I'll have to look through my reference stuff. I know, back around 1980 I went to the three different dealers in an attempt to by some parts to rebuild my engine. I couldn't even buy a head gasket or rod bearings. I finally got rid of all the tractors. I was thinking about it recently because I had a chance to buy another ED-40 - but I passed it up assuming that no parts are available. Maybe I'm wrong? I've got a couple of International British (Indian?) tractors now, and parts availability is not good for them, either. Have a B-275 and a B-414.

You are correct about the Allis-Chalmers,but that was a slightly different engine to the Massey-Ferguson different cylinder block and cylinder head. would like to know what the other tractors were though, would be interesting.

A lot of parts are still avialable for the Standard diesel in UK but its definetly not as easy to get everything as it would be for Perkins diesel. Diesel tractors are the norm in the UK but if you're in USA I suppose it might be more of a rarity. Standard diesel engine was also used in cars and taxis.

The engine used in the cars and Taxis was the earlier 20c diesel, the 23c engine used in the 35 tractors was a bit on the large side for cars, it was used in a few vans and light trucks though.

Contact either Richard Pocock on 01747 828272. or Ron Greet on 01803 812269. Either should be able to supply a decent used filter. Try to ascertain exactly what tractor you have - I'd be surprised if it's a TO 30.

I know that Vapormatic do a replacement oil bath air cleaner complete for about £40 but it depends on how original you need it to be - and whether it will fit TO35 - if that's the model you really mean and not the FE35. Vapormatic part can be got through most tractor dealers or any of the usual UK vintage suppliers e.g. Old 20 parts, Vintage Tractor Supplies, Dunlop Hydraulics etc. Don't know if that helps any. You can view Vapormatic one on their website.
